International Summer School on Sustainable Aquaculture

06/10/2026 to 08/10/2026

The AquaBioNets project, funded under the Interreg Euro-MED programme, is dedicated to promoting innovative and eco-sustainable solutions for the aquaculture sector, with a particular emphasis on the development and adoption of biocompatible and biodegradable aquaculture nets. By fostering collaboration across research institutions, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, the project aims to support the transition toward more environmentally responsible aquaculture practices in the Mediterranean region.

Within this framework, the “International Summer School on Sustainable Aquaculture” will be held from October 6 to 8, 2026, in Alghero (Sardinia, Italy), at Porto Conte Ricerche, a leading research center and innovation hub. Participation is limited to a maximum of 50 attendees in order to ensure a high level of interaction and engagement among participants.

The program will include more than 1 day of targeted training sessions addressing emerging challenges in sustainable aquaculture, combined with structured discussions among stakeholders. One whole day will be dedicated to field activities, including a visit to an offshore aquaculture production facility, providing participants with direct insight into operational practices and get feeling of critical management operations in real marine environments.

The International Summer School is designed as an interactive platform where stakeholders, including producers, SMEs, researchers, policymakers, and civil society representatives, are encouraged to actively contribute by presenting real-world challenges, identifying sectoral needs, and proposing innovation pathways. These inputs will be further explored within the AquaBioNets project and, where relevant, shared across broader stakeholder networks.

A central objective of the initiative is to strengthen dialogue between production systems, research, and policy, ensuring that the voices of those directly involved in aquaculture are effectively heard and integrated into innovation processes. By facilitating this exchange, AquaBioNets aims to contribute to the development of practical, scalable solutions aligned with the principles of sustainable and environmentally friendly aquaculture.
