  • Background
Microbial communities are complex systems and learning on the existing link between composition and the ecosystem functions is still challenging. Regardless the microbiota’s milieu (human, animal, plant, environment, food, etc.), the single microbial members often differ in their functional responses to it, modifying the microbial population metrics, specific biochemical pathways, and antigenic load. The reliability of the metaproteomics approaches, from proteins/peptides sample preparation to bioinformatics analyses, provides new practical tools to design efficacious functional studies of microbiota and for unraveling interaction between community diversity and functional features.A sound scientific basis for improved mass spectrometry and bioinformatics technologies is the key to develop appropriate and effective experimental efforts aimed at unveiling microbiota structure and functions. The Symposium will present the latest science and stimulate discussion between keynote lecturers, selected speakers, and all attendees.
  • Call for abstracts
Abstracts for oral and poster presentation (500 word maximum, excluding authors names and affiliations) should be prepared using the Abstract Template provided below, and forwarded to the Symposium organizers at [email protected] Abstract submission deadline has been extended to April, 18th, 2017!Abstracts are considered for acceptance only when author's registration is complete.Topics addressed are:1. sample preparation techniques for metaproteomics2. mass spectrometry methods for discovery and targeted metaproteomics3. metaproteome bioinformatics4. multi-omic approaches and systems microbiology5. applications of metaproteomics in health and disease6. metaproteomics and animal productions7. food and plant metaproteomics8. environmental metaproteomics Abstracts must be submitted in English. All abstracts must contain original work relevant to the Topics identified above, that has not been published or presented on previous occasions. Each registrant can submit only one abstract for evaluation. Selection of oral and poster presentations will take place and speakers and presenters will be informed by April 28, 2017.
  • Organization
Building on the success of the 2016 Metaproteomics Symposium held in Magdeburg (Germany), the 2017 “International Metaproteomics Symposium: what can we learn about microbial communities and their functions?” will provide scientific updates and collegial discussions across a broad array of different scientific disciplines now focusing on microbial community systems and functions. A special emphasis will be put on what state-of-the-art research is telling us about metaproteomics methodologies and their applications.Organized to include various plenary sessions, poster sessions and breakout workshops covering both disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives, the Symposium is expected to enable attendees to shape their future science priorities and strategies toward investigation of microbiota structures and functions.Scientific CommitteeDirk Benndorf ‒ O. von Guericke University, MagdeburgLennart Martens ‒ Ghent UniversitySergio Uzzau ‒ Porto Conte RicerchePaul Wilmes ‒ University of LuxembourgOrganizing CommitteeMaria Filippa Addis ‒ Porto Conte RicercheBart Mesuere ‒ Ghent UniversityThilo Muth ‒ Robert Koch Institute, BerlinDaniela Pagnozzi ‒ Porto Conte RicercheAlessandro Tanca ‒ Porto Conte RicercheSergio Uzzau ‒ Porto Conte Ricerche
