International Summer School on Sustainable Aquaculture at Porto Conte Ricerche

06/10/2026 to 08/10/2026

From 6 to 8 October 2026, Porto Conte Ricerche, in Tramariglio, will host the International Summer School on Sustainable Aquaculture, organised within the framework of the European project AquaBioNets – Interreg Euro-MED. The event will bring together researchers, companies, aquaculture producers, public institutions and other stakeholders from several countries to discuss the main challenges and future perspectives of sustainable aquaculture.

The Summer School aims to promote knowledge exchange and strengthen cooperation among research, industry and institutions, connecting research results with the practical needs of aquaculture professionals. The programme has also been developed based on the needs and priorities identified through the Needs Assessment carried out by AquaBioNets in the six countries involved in the project.

Focus on sustainable aquaculture

Over the three-day event, participants will address a range of topics relevant to the future of Mediterranean aquaculture, including biodegradable and biocompatible materials, sustainable alternatives to conventional nets, microplastics and environmental impacts, animal welfare, digital innovation, climate change, the circular bioeconomy, biosecurity and the resilience of aquaculture systems.

The first day, 6 October, will focus on presentations and discussions, including an interactive session based on the Living Lab approach. On 7 October, participants will have the opportunity to discover local aquaculture activities through field visits and meetings with industry operators. The final day, 8 October, will include a poster session, a visit to the Porto Conte Ricerche laboratories and further thematic presentations, followed by the official closing of the event.

Porto Conte Ricerche: a meeting place for research and innovation

For Porto Conte Ricerche, hosting the Summer School represents an important opportunity to strengthen its role as a meeting place for research, innovation and the productive sector, while contributing to the development of new collaborations in the fields of the blue economy and sustainable aquaculture.

The initiative is part of the broader activities of AquaBioNets, a project funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, which aims to promote innovative and sustainable solutions for the aquaculture sector through transnational cooperation and the direct involvement of stakeholders.

Registration for in-person participation is now closed. However, the first and third days of the Summer School can be followed online via live streaming. The streaming link will be published on the dedicated event page of the project website.
