Il giorno mercoledì 6 luglio 2011, dalle ore 11.00 alle 13.00, presso la Sala Nettuno di Porto Conte Ricerche, si terrà il seminario dal titolo: “MONOGENIC DIABETES AND INTEREST TO UNDERSTAND COMMON FORMS OF DIABETES “
Relaziona Cécile Julier, Research Director di Inserm, Unità "Génétique du diabète" dell’Inserm e Università di Paris 7
Abstract del seminario:
“Monogenic diabetes” (also called MODY - Maturity onset diabetes of the young), refers to any of several hereditary forms of diabetes caused by mutations in an autosomal dominant gene, disrupting insulin production. This is often called “monogenic diabetes" to distinguish it from the common types of diabetes (especially type 1 and type 2), which involve more complex combinations of causes (i.e. multiple genes and environmental factors). Although they may explain only a small fraction of the disease,
monogenic forms of diabetes provide important information on normal and pathologic processes that may result in diabetes, including pancreas and beta cell development, death and survival, and functionalities. Several genes responsible for rare forms of monogenic diabetes have now been implicated in common forms of diabetes, including type 1 and type 2, supporting the existence of shared mechanisms between these different forms of diabetes.
Modera Patricia Rodriguez-Tomé, del CRS4
Il seminario, che si tiene in lingua inglese, è gratuito ed aperto a tutti gli interessati.
